Grace and Andrew : Married

Grace and Andrew were married at Glen Magna Farms on a beautiful early fall day.  There was some kind of big pile-up traffic situation on the highway, and everyone arrived late for getting ready.  While there certainly was a flurry of activity once the bride and her dress were reunited at Glen Magna, what could have been a complete circus unfolded instead like a well-rehearsed dance.  By simply rescheduling the family photos for after the ceremony instead of before, we were able to proceed with the ceremony at the scheduled time, the couple was able to relax, and the guests were not kept waiting.  I admired Grace and Andrew’s ability to flex with the day as it unfolded, and I think that as a result they had a great time.

Kelly - Beautiful work Emily! I love photo of the bride and her dad before they head to the ceremony, and then the procession. Such a great moments!

Denise and Dave : Married

It was my honor and privilege to photograph Denise and Dave’s wedding at the Bedford Village Inn. Dave had a level of enthusiasm and involvement in the planning and details that I don’t generally find in a groom – and Denise was a lovely bride who was truly able to enjoy the day they both worked hard to put together.  It was easy to see all day long how right these two are for each other.  I wish them both every happiness as they continue to build their new family and life together!

Andrea and Alex : Married

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, I bring you a post that is blissfully absent of any pink or red (ok ALMOST, but I couldn’t resist just one!)!  Often prospective clients ask about black and white images.  My approach is to deliver a collection of images that is mostly color, with some images converted to black and white as part of the whole group.  To me, black and white images have a timeless feel that is totally different from color.   I’m always happy to convert additional images to black and white upon request, but the ones I include in a collection are the ones I think work best that way.

Andrea and Alex tied the knot on a gorgeous day last fall, with a beautiful Greek Orthodox ceremony at St. Athanasius The Great in Arlington, a quick stop for pictures in Post Office Square, then an elegant reception at the downtown Harvard Club.  Bringing these two families together meant a party that was part Italian, part Greek, and all fun! Plus Andrea and Alex treated us all to a musical performance- I do love to see a woman in a bridal gown wielding a bass – so cool.

Kathleen and Jon on A City Wedding

I’m thrilled to be part of A City Wedding‘s inaugural week live on the interwebs with photographs from Kathleen and Jon’s Cambridge wedding!  A City Wedding is a new blog celebrating, you might have guessed it, weddings in cities!  I’m excited to follow along as this blog discovers many many more beautiful, stylish, and real urban weddings!

Melissa - Congrats, Em!

Melissa and Brian : Married at the Arboretum

They say that it’s good luck if it rains on your wedding day (I’m one of the lucky ones myself), and if that is the case then Melissa and Brian can start planning what they might like to do with their future lottery winnings- because never before have I seen such a perfectly timed, torrentially intense event grace a couple’s nuptials!  Melissa and Brian chose a beautiful old oak grove in the Arnold Arboretum for their intimate ceremony.  Only their parents, three closest friends, and two dogs were in attendance, and everyone came prepared with an umbrella (ok, the dogs didn’t, but they didn’t seem to mind getting wet).  It was as if the heavens opened up just to wash the world clean for this newly minted married pair.  Nothing could wash the smiles off their faces, however, and in fact as we walked away from the oak grove, the rain let up and the trees and other plants sparkled for their picture-taking session.  I’m sure their after-party was filled with lots more sparkle, too (and fewer umbrellas).

Max - Gorgeous ring shot!

Paul and Missy : The Thing

As they say in one of my favorite movies of all time,
MERRY NEW YEAR
!!

I am excited to kick off 2012 by posting a wedding that is very close to my heart.  Paul and I go waay back, and there’s so much I could say about the quality of person that Paul is, but let it be enough for me to say that Missy is no dummy and has chosen herself a Good Man. Their wedding celebration, nicknamed “The Thing,” was held at the Port City Music Hall in Portland, Maine, and was full of humor, music, lifelong friends, and family.  If I tried to tell you about all the details, it would fall flat since you don’t know the story of why it was funny that the guests played “Here Comes the Bride” on kazoos… or why Steve Murphy was the perfect person in all the world to have performed this ceremony.   Or the distances that this rag-tag group of musicians came, physically and metaphorically, to transform the reception into a musical act that was twenty years in the making.  Or why Paul’s sisters toasted him with “Don’t Stop Believin’” – and how Paul can actually hit all those notes that Steve Perry can hit (and play a mean air guitar as well).  And on and on…  Suffice it to say that it was my extreme honor and privilege to document this occasion (and happily there is no evidence of my own turn back on the stage for a cameo appearance).

Kelly - What a spectacularly fun looking wedding! I love the shots of the bride and groom laughing during the ceremony. Also, the black and whites of the stage are pretty awesome and have such a classic feel.

Emily - Thanks Kelly!! There was laughing pretty much all day – Paul and Missy just couldn’t be any other way! It was awesome.
