Melissa and Brian : Married at the Arboretum

They say that it’s good luck if it rains on your wedding day (I’m one of the lucky ones myself), and if that is the case then Melissa and Brian can start planning what they might like to do with their future lottery winnings- because never before have I seen such a perfectly timed, torrentially intense event grace a couple’s nuptials!  Melissa and Brian chose a beautiful old oak grove in the Arnold Arboretum for their intimate ceremony.  Only their parents, three closest friends, and two dogs were in attendance, and everyone came prepared with an umbrella (ok, the dogs didn’t, but they didn’t seem to mind getting wet).  It was as if the heavens opened up just to wash the world clean for this newly minted married pair.  Nothing could wash the smiles off their faces, however, and in fact as we walked away from the oak grove, the rain let up and the trees and other plants sparkled for their picture-taking session.  I’m sure their after-party was filled with lots more sparkle, too (and fewer umbrellas).

Paul and Missy : The Thing

As they say in one of my favorite movies of all time,
MERRY NEW YEAR
!!

I am excited to kick off 2012 by posting a wedding that is very close to my heart.  Paul and I go waay back, and there’s so much I could say about the quality of person that Paul is, but let it be enough for me to say that Missy is no dummy and has chosen herself a Good Man. Their wedding celebration, nicknamed “The Thing,” was held at the Port City Music Hall in Portland, Maine, and was full of humor, music, lifelong friends, and family.  If I tried to tell you about all the details, it would fall flat since you don’t know the story of why it was funny that the guests played “Here Comes the Bride” on kazoos… or why Steve Murphy was the perfect person in all the world to have performed this ceremony.   Or the distances that this rag-tag group of musicians came, physically and metaphorically, to transform the reception into a musical act that was twenty years in the making.  Or why Paul’s sisters toasted him with “Don’t Stop Believin’” – and how Paul can actually hit all those notes that Steve Perry can hit (and play a mean air guitar as well).  And on and on…  Suffice it to say that it was my extreme honor and privilege to document this occasion (and happily there is no evidence of my own turn back on the stage for a cameo appearance).

Sara and Deepak : Married!

Sara and Deepak’s wedding took place at the Crane Estate’s Steep Hill on one of the last hot dog-days of the summer.  Crane Beach provided the perfect backdrop for the ceremony, and then everyone trekked up the (STEEP) hill for lobster and libations.  Sara was a champion sari-wearer (many yards of heavy silk wrapped around you on a hot day is no small feat).  Deepak didn’t look too shabby either!!  Everyone, including the many little ones present, reveled in the love and happiness that these two share with each other. It was truly a special occasion, and I thank you both for including me in your day!

Erin and Dave: married!

Erin and Dave were married in their hometown of Lowell,  and held their wedding reception at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium.  What a great space for a big party!  Maybe it was the fifties music that was playing for the setup crew when I arrived to check it out, but the place had a somewhat retro feeling about it – like it definitely had been around to see it all, and had many a great evening still echoing through its well-cared-for halls. Erin and Dave, you added yet another great night to the history of the place, and I wish you all the best!!

Kathleen and Jonathan : Married!

Kathleen and Jonathan found me through a recommendation from a former client (thanks again, Danielle!!!), and as it turned out Kathleen decided to get ready at Danielle’s house*.  Kathleen’s dress was simply perfect on her.  I mention this because it wasn’t her ‘original’ dress – that one had suffered an alteration disaster at the tailor and this one was a last-minute rental!!  I was so impressed by how Kathleen was totally at peace with this (perhaps it had taken some effort to become so, but still!), and how well she rocked this dress and the bling she got to go along with it.  Her positive attitude about this really set a great tone for the day.

After a quick first look with Jonathan at home, it was off to the MIT chapel… such a serene and beautiful place to have a wedding ceremony.  A reception at Upstairs on the Square provided a zany contrast in design to the austere beauty of the chapel, and after a fantastic dinner upstairs, the party went back down to the main floor where Denise LaCarubba from DJ Deja spun an amazing dance party!  Thank you, Kathleen and Jonathan, for including me in your day-  I wish you all the best!

*I was thrilled to see that Danielle and Ben had had some prints from their City Hall wedding printed and framed, and that they were proudly on display alongside the photos from their ‘other’ wedding (the bigger affair in Mexico) in their dining room.  I always encourage my clients to think about ways they want to enjoy their photos into the future, and framing a few choice prints is a great way to go.

Danielle and PJ : Married!

Summer is starting to slip away, and so I can start to be a bit nostalgic about the sometimes uncomfortable heat and humidity of the season.  Also for the beach, that quintessential emblem of the summer, and for many, of our childhood days.  Danielle and PJ actually met on this very beach during their own childhoods, so it seemed just perfect that they would come back to be wed here.  It was a gorgeous day (not too hot nor too humid), and an intimate ceremony was followed by a fantastic party at the very elegant Cultural Center of Cape Cod.  Childhood memories must have mingled with future plans as the newlyweds listened to heartfelt toasts, broke (delicious) bread, and danced on into the night as a fresh new family of their own.  I wish you both all the best and hope that every summer will bring warm days on the sand and happy memories of this beautiful day!
