This year I continued my annual tradition of visiting New Orleans for the Jazz and Heritage Festival (and to see my wonderful friends from college who live there). The festival is a whirlwind of sights and sounds, and the ‘big’ names always draw huge crowds to the big outdoor stages. My favorite part of the festival, however, is tucked right under the Economy Hall tent in the middle of the festival. The average age of the audience definitely creeps up under this tent, but the energy and enthusiasm for the Dixieland classics is as strong as any at the festival. This is particularly evident in the tradition of ‘second lining,’ which basically involves strutting your stuff (fancy umbrella or hankie entirely optional). Below, a small tribute to the sassy second liners of the fest…

(and if you’re a Pandora listener, some Dixieland for your listening pleasure)
